After the success of the Wine Preview of Vernaccia di San Gimignano 2019, which has kept us busy in the last few weeks, we are ready to give our best for the two biggest events of the year, Prowein and Vinitaly 2019 where you will be able to taste our new vintages and usual signature wines.
We will also introduce our first novelty of the year: our first back label, a synthetic but useful guide for tasting our wines.
Come and visit us: the coordinates remain the same as last year:
Prowein: we will be, like last year, guests of our distributor Schlumberger / Segnitz in Hall 14, booth D90. The dates of the fair are March 17 through 19.
Vinitaly: we will be in Hall 9, booth B14. The fair will take place April 7 through 10.
Follow us on social media and stay tuned!
How was the Wine Preview 2019, in a flash?
We really liked: many wine professionals, many journalists, several interested and competent end customers attended the main event of the year organized by the Consortium of Vernaccia di San Gimignano. They all agreed in defining thes year’s Wine Preview direct and spontaneous, like many of the wines showcased, and givin positive comments.
Those who came to our stand commented positively on our wines, with peaks of enthusiasm.
The most appreciated label has been Vernaccia Vigna Santa Margherita.
We would like to close with heartfelt thanks from Walter Sovran and Susanna Santini to the Consortium and too all the visitors the came to our stand.
Stay tuned on our upcoming events, starting from Prowein in March and Vinitaly in April.

What does the month of June have in store for Panizzi? Great movement, for sure.
It is true that May was relatively quiet, with Walter Sovran and Susanna Santini mainly engaged in all-Italian tastings, from Tingel Tangel, Poggibonsi's restaurant, to DOCG Wine Experience in collaboration with Ais Padova, to winemakers dinners at Vineria 54 Rosso in Florence and at Enoteca in Marina di Pisa. However the month ended with a wonderful trip to Basel, where Vini d'Amato organized its traditional Spring Tasting in an exceptional location, a church in the center of the city (hopefully desecrated) .
June, on the other hand, is expected to be much more lively: promotion will begin immediately, on the 3rd, when Susanna Santini, our Sales Manager, will be engaged in a tasting in Eindhoven and will then move to Germany, first Lipzia and then Berlin, for tastings and dinners. They will all be disclosed and celebrated in the days to come on our social networks.
A week of followup and then off again Susanna's usual trip overseas: she will be wandering around New York City with agencies Bacchanal and Verity Wines. They will be awaiting Susanna with open arms for a series of Panizzi tastings in the best restaurants of the big apple.
And at the very end of the month, there will be a last promotional event in Florence. The location, still to be disclosed, will be outstanding. So stay tuned to learn more and follow us on our social networks!
On the one hand we have Vinitaly's numbers: in 4 days, 128 thousand visitors from 143 countries attended the trade show. Among them, there were 32,000 foreign operators, up 6% compared to 2017: United States (+ 11%), China (+ 34%), Northern Europe - Sweden, Finland, Norway and Denmark - (+ 17%), the Netherlands (+ 15%), Poland (+ 27%) and Israel (+300%); 4,380 exhibiting brands (130 more than last year) representing 36 countries were present; 15,100 wines were offered with information in Italian, English and Chinese in order to promote business more effectively. In short: buyer and offer quality were definitely on the rise.
On the other side there are the impressions of those who have breathed in the air of Vinitaly and worked intensely during the four days of the fair, such asWalter Sovran, our winemaker, and Susanna Santini, our Sales Manager. Our European importers, sommeliers and competent professionals have passed through our stand featuring #panizzipeople and our signature wines. Besides them, many enthusiasts showed, for good overall attendance, with a peak on Sunday and Monday. So the impressions confirm the numbers.
"I was very pleased to see an increase in business clients and professionals, a clear sign that Vinitaly is now more than ever a high-level and professional fair, which gives us visibility in the eyes of our active importers and potential new customers" . This is the comment by Susanna Santini.
Walter Sovran, on the other hand, is particularly satisfied with product feedback. "The latest vintages have been very appreciated, and once again Panizzi's wines that go against the tide were a hit. Just an example: our Pinot Noir, which amazed and intrigued for its excellent drinkability, despite its gradation, together with Evoé, a product that is special and unique, cannot go unnoticed ", this is his comment. "We have opened oh so many bottles, and it is always a pleasure to see how the people - professionals or amateurs - recognize an excellent winemaker in Panizzi, one that remains the same in time and has a clear identity, that of an innovator in quality".
They were also very glad that many visitor, after passing by the stand of the Consortium of Vernaccia di San Gimignano, stopped at Panizzi for further information on our productions and for specific and focused tastings.
That's all. See you all at the 53rd edition of Vinitaly, scheduled from April 7th to 10th 2019.
Again this year, we left Vinitaly behind us, with an edition that proved definitely important, whose audience was - in our opinion - particularly selective and targeted compared to the one in the last editions.
The highlights of the 2017 edition were four:
- The return of Evoè (year 2013), our long-lasting maceration white on the skins and produced in limited edition.
- A brand new coordinated image, both in the stand and paper material, in the name of modernity and immediacy.
- The Magicbox, a selection of three old vintages of our Vernaccia di San Gimignano Riserva: 2000, 2003 and 2009.
- Our latest corporate video.
Visits to San Gimignano
In April this year, in addition to the inevitable appointment of Verona, there have been oh so many interesting meetings in our wine estate in San Gimignano, aiming to support the export of our wines to wonderful places that could not be further away.
Shortly before Vinitaly, we received a visit from some Bahamas importers, with the clear objective of knowing the place of origin of our label: they had visited San Gimignano many years ago and they can now proudly import Panizzi to their wonderful island.
Together with them, our importer for Japan paid a visit.
Lastly, a group of agents from Manitoba, Canada, visited in the frame of a training program put forward by Tolaini, an Italian-Canadian professional wine-maker, owner of the homonymous company and a specialized wine-bar: every year Tolaini offers their most promising young agents a special tour of the producing sites of their top selling wines.
May on the road
Panizzi's promotiona tour goes live! Susanna Santini, our Sales Manager, has just started a grand tour around the world. Here are May's stops, the development of which you can follow step by step on our social accounts on Facebook and Instagram.
The second week of May, Susanna will visit New York City siding our top overseas importers. Be ready to see her ride a Vespa on 5th Avenue.
On May 15, Susanna will be in the Netherlands for a promotion dinner dedicated to Italian wine excellence in collaboration with Margaret Wines.
On May 19 Panizzi will attend for the second time Vinmässa 2017 with Idala Gård at the company headquarters in Sweden at Trelleborg.
On May 24 in Prague, Czech Republic, Susanna will represent for Panizzi at Festa del Vino Italiano with our importer in the country, Eno.
The month ends on the 30th, with a visit to Lake Constance, Germany, where Susanna always receives the warmest of welcomes, returning to Restaurant Pinocchio.
After a September and October on the move, Susanna Santini (#supersusanna on our social networks), our sales manager, keeps going, promoting Panizzi as a True Innovator of Vernaccia di San Gimignano with two special trips: first in and around London and then the inevitable appointment of Giro d'Italia at Licata Vini. Here are all the details and some photos.
Rochester, Canterbury e Londra
Susanna wants to kick off the newly started collaboration with Vinissimo in the best possible way. Vinissimo is one of the most important Italian wines importer in the UK, so it was well worth to be there in person and transfer in person all the value, beauty, excellent taste of the "best white wine in the world". We are convinced to havenothing less than that in our hands: a precious product to be tasted calmly and in tranquillity.
The tour starts then, in Rochester, the city of Charles Dickens: Susanna bets everything on Vernaccia di San Gimignano DOCG and Vigna Santa Margherita, she reveals the mysteries and secrets to enjoy it at its best to all Vinissimo agents, in particular having lunch at the restaurant Olive & Capperi.
Next stop, Canterbury, where Susanna feels a bit "at home", not only for the good food of the good Italian restaurants visited with Massimo, Vinissimo agent, but mostly because in this city the Via Francigena begins, a road traveled by pilgrims of all ages to reach Rome, the center of Christianity, and that goes through San Gimignano.
In Richmond, Susanna was accompanied by agent Bruno to the Pig's Ears, where the owner Jihad Rahbani welcomed her warmly.
Final stop: London and in particular restaurants 500 and Bosa, visited with Vinissimo agent Loris. The London experience ended with a toast with Paul Santoro, owner of Vinissimo.
Heartfelt thanks, then, to all the staff and clients, for taking us on the market and for a genuinely warm welcoming in this autumn and winter that are just at the beginning.
Giro d'Italia at Licata Vini
Giro d'Italia is the major event that Licata Vini, a corner of Italy moved to Belgium, Diepenbeek, organizes every fall Three days dedicated to Italian wine that crosses a massive selection, over 350 wines from over 70 wineries. An unmissable event for lovers of wine, is open to the general public that the wine and food professionals.
The location has been set for Hangar 58 in Bokrijk: the entry includes both the free tasting of all exhibited wines and a dish of choice from Licata Vini Food Corner. An aoutstanding attendance, a nice atmosphere and so much interest. Susanna presented Panizzi Vernaccia di San Gimignano DOCG, Vigna Santa Margherita and Reserva for tasting, in addition to Chianti Vertunno.
In the evening, Susanna had a nice dinner at Peppe's, a historic Licata Vini client, whom we thank, together with all the friends met and especially our friends of Licata Vini.
A little less than a month after its opening, Olivia celebrates its entry into the gourmet world with an open day primarily dedicated to journalists and bloggers to mark the start of Biennale Enogastronomica. Panizzi just had to be there: for the occasion, Walter Sovran, our winemaker, brought the perfect wine to match the quality of Olivia's street food fried in olive oil. We are talking about Vernaccia di San Gimignano Vigna Santa Margherita, the best one, according to Walter, for structure and acidity.
What can you eat at Olivia?
Olivia's mission is clear and special: it offers a menu dominated by street food fried in extra virgin olive oil, but twisted the gourmet way by an exceptional chef: Simone Cipriani, a promising young Tuscan cuisine chef that, thanks to his creativity, enhanced Olivia's food's most characteristic featres giving even more dignity to Tuscan traditional cuisine.
We tasted garlic bread to start, followed by beef meatballs made of La Granda meat, Slow Food presidium. Then it was the turn of pappa donuts, savory puffs with a heart of pappa al pomodoro (tomato sauce), and fried ravioli, each course accompanied by special sauces, made of seasonal vegetables or cheese.
And the oil? Strictly coming from Frantoio Santa Tea, Gonnelli family, active in the production of extra virgin olive oil since 1585.
Which Vernaccia di San Gimignano?
Walter presented a double choice: Vigna Santa Margherita 2014 and 2013. This Panizzi Vernaccia, for structure and acidity, for its floral and fruity notes, is best suited to accompany food fried in olive oil. As for the vintages, the 2014 was interesting because of his energetic touch, and the 2013 confirmed itself as incomparable.
What is special about Olivia?
Besides the optimally designed gastronomy project, the location of the restaurant, right in front of Pitti Palace in the heart of the most authentic part of Florence, the first part of the city to grow and develop, and furnishings are the result of a specific project. Nothing is left to chance: the furnishings are custom made to accommodate the products on display, the colors alternate beige to olive green, also used in the furniture, tables and lamps are the work of young interior designers that enhance the history of Gonnelli family: a table uses an ancient millstone used for pressing oil, another one is the result of the restoration of old wooden boards in use in the mill, some chandeliers are made with the old nets for the collection of the olives.
A wine celebrity is in town: after visiting Consorzio della Vernaccia di San Gimignano we invited her for a special tasting at Panizzi in the late afternoon with a lovely atmosphere.
We are talking about Rosemary George, among the very first women to pass the Master of Wine exam back in 1979. After almost none years in wine trade with The Wine Society in London and many more in the UK and Europe, she stood out internationally as a freelance writer since 1981. Today she is also a blogger with her www.tastelanguedoc.blogspot.com. Among her books there are several publications about our Tuscany.
Here are some images of her very appreciated visit.
Every year one of the most famous wineshops in Italy, Enoteca Molesini in Cortona, hosts us in their series of open wine tastings and dinners, this year going by the name of Wine and Dine & Shine since Del Brenna Jewelry joined the event shonsorship to give an extra touch of class and elegance.
Every Thursday from late spring on a wine producer of excellence coming from various regions in Italy provides an open tasting, first in Cortona's main square, Piazza della Repubblica, where Molesini Wine Shop is located, and then in one of Cortona's top rated restaurants. During the dinner, the wines of the producer are carefully matched to seasonal dishes served by the restaurant's chef. Chef and winemaker share information and little secrets with their guests and the atmosphere gets intimate and friendly.
Here are the wines we provided last Thrusday:
- Vernaccia di San Gimignano DOCG 2015
- Vernaccia di San Gimignano Vigna Santa Margherita DOCG 2014
- Vernaccia di San Gimignano Riserva 2012
- Pinot Nero di San Gimignano 2013
- Passito di Toscana 2013 (extra)
Tasters were jovial, competent and curious. They took Panizzi's challenge seriously and enjoyed our unconventional yet excellent wines. A real emotion arose with the Riserva, especially when combined with the excellent food served during the dinner. Also the guests were pleasantly surprised by our unconventional Pinot Noir and Passito, rare wines in Tuscany, especially when combined with traditional Tuscan cuisine. So much for Panizzi as #vernacciapioneers.
After dinner, Susanna, the Molesini brothers and more friends, guests and clients all moved to the nearby The Lion's Well Pub right in front of Teatro Signorelli for a last toast.
A special thank you to Del Brenna for the wonderful jewels worn by Susanna and to Paolo and Marco Molesini, who sided with Susanna in this magical event. See you next year!
Dear friends of Panizzi,
during the month of August, many of our people will be absent in order to get some well deserved holiday rest. This is why we kindly ask you to call 0039 0577 941576 in advance in order to book your tastings and visits for purchases at our farm beforehand.
Grazie and happy summer everyone!
Simply charming: a fresh wind blowing over the woods of San Gimignano, the towers caressed by the last rays of the sunset, a journey of taste back in time through old vintages, while darkness descended, elegant, on the hills all around. This was our Midsummer Event 2016.
Around 9 pm the sun went down: a mystical experience, as Walter, the Winemaker, WW, in fact, defined it, began and delighted all attending winelovers. He opened a magnum of Vernaccia di San Gimignano Evoè 2006: an outstanding white wine, matured on the skins for three months, with a lingering taste, aggressive, reactive.
On we go: WW served three mysterious vintages of Vernaccia di San Gimignano Vigna Santa Margherita, the first vineyard cultivated by Gianni Panizzi: positive impressions and surprise on how well this wine ages in the bottle to four, eight, twelve years. The mistery is reveales: the vintages are the years of the Olympic Games since Rio 2016 is about to start.
Night falls. One last photo to the former mayor of San Gimignano's twin town Meersburg in Germany, a long-course friend of Panizzi's. The immediately response is triggered: the Italian flag.
That's it: we drank well, we ate well. Thank you all and see you next year!
The summer season just exploded and, you know what? We feel like celebrating.
We have many reasons: our farm hotel is open in the summer for the first time, our countryside is in bloom, our cellar hosts the result of one of the best vintages of the last 20 years.
Everyone agrees, then: we invite you all to celebrate the summer with us at our farm hotel in Località Santa Margherita, 34 on Monday July, 11th from 6.30 on: this is the Panizzi Midsummer Event 2016.
Our extra virgin olive oil will be there, together with the gastronomic excellence of our territory and, of course, our wines, new vintages and old.
Are you coming? Kindly send and email to firstname.lastname@example.org by July 8th. Grazie!
Our Sales Manager Susanna Santini's evangelization about high quality Vernaccia di San Gimignano continues: this time it was the turn of Holland. last weekend Susanna visited a group of distributors specialized in Italian wine, three Italian haute cuisine restaurants and took part in the first edition of Lekker Noordbroek, a food festival which prooved cheerful, energetic, high quality and unconventional. Therefore, we could not miss it: #vernacciapioneers. A big hug to Susanna's fellow travelers, in particular to Serge, Susana and Anouschka. Here are all the pics.
We can't wait for it to be summertime, so relax and good wine are a great appetizer: on Friday May 20th, we were hosted at Hotel I Ginepri in Donoratico for a special Panizzi-themed dinner in the name of great quality wine: every course at the hotel restaurant was paired with one of our wines. Our winemaker Walter Sovran representing for Panizzi.
Nothing makes you feel better than being at ease and contented with you body and your soul. This is definitely what happened to anyone attending Vitality, the amazing, overwhelming, incredible visual art, sculpture, installation, music and light-design show at Casole d'Elsa Panizzi was so proud to sponsor with its wines of Passion. Big ups to Olga and Andrea for their outstanding work. Get a sample of the awe right here.
Instead of all the pictures taken at the even, this time we are showcasing only the portraits of Susanna Santini, representing Panizzi, together with the other winemakers attending the event, raising the flag of good Italian wine! Simona Fabroni - Villa S.Anna, Alessio Casamatta - Villa Patrizia, Adelio D'Adamo - Villa Caprareccia, Claudia Hausen Puccini - Casale Marchese, Enrico Lorenzato - Cormons, Alessandro Fabiano - Fabiano, Riccardo - Antonutti, Selezione Fattorie - Silvia Formigli, Domenico De Marco, Gabbas. Big ups to Christopher and Charlotte Kvist and see you next year!
