For this #panizziperson we touch the very heart of the company: the warehouse, where the squares of Panizzi's logo are repeated in all its chromatic variations with a perfect and almost hypnotic sequence. Andrea Santinelli is the custodian and person in charge of this realm. But the company is small, a family company and the roles to be covered are many. So Andrea is also the guardian angel of the company's vehicles. But there is more. Let's find out something more about him.
#panizzipeople 5: Andrea Santinelli
What's your job at Panizzi
I am in charge of the warehouse and the mechanic, responsible for the repairs of the company's vehicles, but when it's needed, I also carry out the most diverse tasks.
What is the skill that those who do your job cannot absolutely lack?
For all the roles, above all as far as warehouse management and repairing are concerned, precision is key. The warehouse is always on the move: there are always deliveries, fairs, events that bring out products, and our flagship store in Larniano need to be replenished constantly; as to incoming, new bottlings take place all year around and require new space. So order is key, otherwise we lose control and need twice the energy and time to put things right.
Mechanics, on the other hand, requires absolute precision, especially here, where there are many kinds of vehicles, from tractors to vans, always in need of a supervising eye. For security's sake, attention and accuracy are essential: we are talking about heavy loads!
What is your favorite element in your work?
Variety. In my previous jobs I repaired and maintained a car, a van after the other and keeping up with technology was an endless race. Here, apart from living a quieter situation, work is more varied and, in addition to managing and maintaining different kinds of vehicles, I often change jobs, from managing the warehouse, to making deliveries of our wines on the territory.
What did you do before working at Panizzi?
I've always been a mechanic, here in San Gimignano, even though I was born in Poggibonsi. When Simone Niccolai, eight years ago, told me about Panizzi and told me that he needed a person for the maintenance of the vehicles, I followed him. But then the company began to grow and structure itself and the need to manage the warehouse arose.
What do you do in your free time? What are your passions?
I've been a judoka for 15 years, at a competitive level, even though I have not participated in so many competitions. Judo has occupied a good part of my life.
What is your favorite Panizzi wine?
I really like whites, and if I had to choose one, I would choose Vigna Santa Margherita. It is a middle ground between the base - compared to which it is superior for the selection of grapes - and the Riserva - in comparison with which it is not so demanding, in fact it is very good. Among the reds I like Folgòre, a wine for great occasions.
What is your favorite place at Panizzi?
Santa Margherita, namely the point at the very top of the hill: the landscape is beautiful. You can only see San Gimignano's towers, the woods and vineyards all around.
What is your favorite place in San Gimignano?
Cum Quibus, the restaurant! We sell wine for a living, so we appreciate a good life, the pleasures of life, among which drinking well and eating well. At Cum Quibus you do just that.
